Get A Great Glow Without The Sun
Everybody knows that baking yourself out in the sun everyday is a bad idea. Nobody wants skin cancer. Fortunately, if you’ve got white or light skin and want a nice healthy glow, you can get one without having to risk an early death. Here are a few different things you can try to get a great glow without the sun:
- Micro-dermabrasion. This isn’t a big scary procedure that you go to the doctor for. Get one of those little kits from Neutrogena or Youthful Essence (Youthful Essence sends you refills on your cream and new sponges every month so you don’t have to worry about it), and use it two or three times a week. It will even out your skin tone and exfoliate, helping to keep acne away.
- Drink a ton of water. Everyday, carry around a big water bottle with you and empty it. Go for twice if you can. Take your vitamins at night and use a good SPF 15 daytime lotion made specifically for your face (body lotions are too greasy). Keeping your skin healthy from the inside is the best way to get a great glow.
- Ex-foliating cleanser. If micro-dermabrasion isn’t your thing, get a good exfoliating cleanser. Clean & Clear scrubs work well. You’ll create a fresh base for a shimmer bronzer dusted lightly across the bridge of your nose, the apples of your cheeks, across your forehead and chin. Bonne BellGlimmer Bronze Highlighting Dust is a good choice.
- A leggy glow. The last thing you want to do is wear a skirt or dress to show off your white legs – especially if you’ve done the bronzing thing on your face. Mix a little bronzing gel and a highlighting or shimmer lotion together in your hand and smooth it on your legs. Use a thin layer and you’ll get a great glow. Try Bonne Bell Gel Bronze and Wet 'n' Wild MegaGlo Face Illuminator.
- Workout. There’s nothing like a brisk walk outside to get your adrenaline going and create a natural glow. This probably won’t work before school in the morning or be long lasting enough for a big night on the town, but it’s good for most evenings when you’re hanging around the house or are just going shopping.
- Self tanner. Self tanners got a bad rep when they first came out because most of them turned your skin orange. No longer is that the case. There are a lot of good ones out there. Oil based tanners sold by department stores work well, but for the more budget minded gal, Jergens Natural Glow works gradually with repeated applications and never turns you orange. If you have a hard time applying your self tanner evenly, after about 5 minutes, apply shimmer lotion or oil and disguise your mistakes. If you choose a spray, keep the bottle about 12 inches from your skin. And no matter what you choose, leave your skin exposed to the air about 20 minutes before getting dressed.
- The right makeup shades. To enhance your self applied tan, you’ve got to pick the right make up shades. Use shimmer or metallic eye shadow, layering powder on top of cream. Gold speckled blush or a good bronzer powder is a must. And for an all over shine when you run out of shimmer lotion, you can mix a squeeze of hair serum with your dusting bronzer powder and smooth it over your skin.
